Practical coaching in running, jumping and throwing for young athletes preparing for school, district and regional track and field—or simply looking to improve their technique.
Whether your child has just qualified for the next level, is competing in an event they have never been formally coached in, or wants to improve before their next carnival, the Youth Athletics Clinic provides focused opportunities to practise, learn and receive feedback.
Ages 10–17
Young athletes are often told to run faster, jump further or throw harder.
The harder question is how.
The Youth Athletics Clinic focuses on helping athletes understand the movements behind better performance, then giving them opportunities to practise those skills with coaching and feedback.
Depending on the clinic program, activities may focus on areas such as:
Sprint technique, acceleration, starts and efficient running mechanics.
Approach consistency, take-off mechanics, coordination and long-jump technique.
Fundamental movement patterns, force production and effective throwing technique.
Athletes learn what they can change—not simply which drills to complete.
The clinic is suitable for young athletes who:
are preparing for a school athletics carnival
have qualified for district or regional track and field
want extra preparation before an upcoming competition
have entered an event they have had little formal coaching in
want to improve their running, jumping or throwing technique
are developing their athletics skills for another sport
are interested in athletics but are not currently part of a club
Participants do not need to be elite athletes or experienced competitors.
Coaching activities can be adjusted for different experience levels, with individual feedback provided throughout the clinic where appropriate.
Sometimes an athletics carnival reveals an opportunity.
A young athlete discovers they are naturally quick.
They qualify unexpectedly for district.
They perform well in long jump despite never having been taught an approach.
They enter a throwing event but have had little opportunity to practise the technique.
The Youth Athletics Clinic gives athletes an opportunity to work on those skills before their next competition—and to better understand what they can continue improving afterwards.
The clinic is designed as a coaching experience rather than simply a supervised training session.
Athletes are encouraged to understand the purpose behind the movements they practise and recognise the technical changes that may improve their performance.
For one athlete, that could mean producing a stronger sprint start.
For another, it could mean creating a more consistent long-jump approach.
For someone else, it may be learning how to coordinate their movement more effectively when throwing.
The objective is to help each participant leave with a clearer understanding of what they can work on next.
The Youth Athletics Clinic is led by an accredited athletics coach with more than 10 years of coaching experience.
Coaching focuses on practical skill development, age-appropriate instruction and helping young athletes build a stronger understanding of athletics technique.
